CharMarie Salon developed out of a dream and a need for consistently great service in the New River Valley. Our stylists are driven and well educated, and we understand that this is what creates a great guest experience.
All of our team members have been hand picked for their strengths in various areas. Get to know each of our stylists to determine which fit is right for you!
I have been passionate about the beauty industry for as long as I can remember. Ask my granny and aunt and they'll pull out pictures of the styles I gave them around age 6.
I received my Cosmetology license from Carroll County High School in 2006 under my very encouraging instructor, Sandra Holder. After high school, I attended Radford University. I obtained my Bachelor's in Accounting in 2010 with the intention of using it to start a salon.
During my time at Radford, I worked locally in salons and completed various trainings in advanced color, cutting, and styling with Aveda, Schwarzkopf, Aquage and Wella. I believe education makes the difference between a good service and a stellar one and that is the trademark behind CharMarie.
Makeup is another passion of mine and I enjoy working on creative shoots and weddings. I am self taught and have dedicated my time to studying the art of makeup. My favorite looks are definitely glam! I also offer one on one makeup lessons to show you how to best highlight your features and offer product recomendations to fit your skin type, coloring, and needs.
My ultimate goal in opening and owning a salon is to foster the growth of my stylists and in turn, provide a salon that offers the best guest experience. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hestitate to let me know. My goal is for you to be our raving fan!
Charmaine is not currently accepting new clients.
My name is Melinda Cumbee. I bring 25 years of experience to CharMarie Salon and could not be more excited to be a part of this team. This industry has been so good to me, as I've literally grown up in it.
I spent eight years touring as a platform artist and teaching the Helix Method of hair cutting and I'm a true believer in education and staying focused on bringing my clients the best of what our business has to offer. Throughout my career, I have had training with Matrix, Joico, Beth Minardi, Redken 5th Ave, Hair Color USA, Schwarzkopf and Helix.
I love all things that color can bring to the table whether it be a complete transformation or a subtle change to enhance the already beautiful you!
In recent years, I have found myself with a growing passion for special occasion hair and makeup. I love being a part of those special life moments, whether it be engagement photos, weddings, or photo shoots. I have expertise in the area of vintage and pin-up hair and makeup.
If you're looking for a salon that can offer you excellence in customer service and the best salon in the NRV, look no further than CharMarie Salon.

Special Occasion Hair
My passion for hair and helping women see their true beauty started way back when I was a little girl. Everyone from Barbie to my best friend were my guinea pigs when it came to hair and makeup. Even my poor high school boyfriend, who I fell head over heels for and married soon after graduating high school. 15 years later and we are more in love and have five amazing children.
Apart from my family, my true love is the beauty industry. A dream became reality when I took the plunge and pursued a career in doing hair in 2005. I graduated first in my class with high honors from Aveda Institute. I was honored to be a part of their international "Master Jam" runway hair show. Though usually in a European country, that year it was held in the US. I was one of five students asked to color, cut and style the trends for 2006 and display my work down the runway.
I have worked with many professional lines including Aveda, Redken and Pravana. With attention to detail and hours of continued education under my belt I have great experience doing color, precision cutting, editorial, special event, wedding and boudoir hair as well as makeup. My goal is to make you feel and look beautiful. A woman who feels beautiful and confident about herself can accomplish anything she sets her mind to! I would count it as a pleasure to have the chance to work one on one with you.
I'm Kim and I would like to thank you in advance for considering me to be your stylist. I was born and raised in Blacksburg and now live in the beautiful Giles county area.
As a stylist at CharMarie Salon, I place high value on listening to my cleints and understanding their needs and expectations. I pride myself on providing great customer service and a style that will best suit my client. I have been licensed in our area for almost 18 years and during this time I have had numerous educational classes in all aspects of the hair and beauty industry. I feel my specialty and passion is in color. I specialize in cutting edge coloring techniques, foil high and lowlights, color correction, gray reduction and both women's and men's haircut and design. As much as I love doing color I also enjoy the "Wow!" moments. I really believe the quote "A woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life.". I love the challenge and thrill of taking someone from long hair to the pixie they've always wanted. This is what makes my job fun. I am blessed to have a career that allows me to help people feel good about themselves and that also feeds my creativity. I am grateful to be a part of such a talented staff and a salon that has a relaxing and warm atmosphere.
When I am not at work I enjoy spending time with my family. My husband and I recently started a business venture together, a rustic wedding venue in Giles County called Lovewell Lodge and Weddings. I hope to further my education in makeup and formal styling to provide the best service to the brides that use our venue. I look forward to meeting you and hope to give you a great hair service and salon experience.
I was raised in Christiansburg and have been here since 1997, now living in Newport with my husband Dave, our two dogs and three cats. I offer more than 25 years of experience to my clients.
My career in hair styling began in Rochester NY, where I attended the Shear Ego International School of Hair Design. I’ve been a Redken Educator, have completed their Master Stylist and Master Colorist programs, and have attended the Redken Exchange in New York city numerous times. My education continues to this day, keeping up on new techniques and styles reflecting today’s trends.
CharMarie provides the perfect environment to allow my creativity to blossom. There is a genuine team atmosphere here that is palpable, and I’m very proud to be a member of the team. There is nothing more important to me than taking care of my clients. I want them to feel good about themselves after seeing me. I love the satisfaction I get from knowing they're happy. I hope I have the chance to prove it to you soon!
Over a decade ago I started my journey in the beauty industry and decided early on that this was the career for me. What an amazing experience it has been and I am truly grateful!
I strive to perfect my craft through continous education with advanced tranining in and out of the salon My inspiration comes from classic looks as well as trendy cut and color styles.
Creating beautiful hair and making sure each client is comfortable are my goals!
Vivid and Creative Color
If you don't see me behind the desk at CharMarie Salon, I'm probably either traveling, taking photos or studying. I travel several times a year, mostly up North to NYC which is my favorite place on Earth. I own a small photography business centered right here in the New River Valley, while studying to become a middle school guidance counselor some day.
I have worked in the customer service field since I was 14 years old and truly believe that I have a knack for it. I think the customer service that you receive from a business can really make or break your entire experience and i hope to make everyone's experience at CharMarie a great one!
I've been in the industry since 2015, all of which I've been blessed to spend at CharMarie. This group of women morphed and shaped me into the stylist that I am today and for that I am forever grateful.
Describing the kinds of hair I love doing in four terms would be: lived in, unique, low maintenance, and alternative. I love creating hair that is aesthetically pleasing, beautiful, and easy for my clients to maintain. The two services that encompass that in my mind are Balayage and shag cuts!
My love for this industry really comes from a place in my heart that wants to allow people to come into my chair and leave feeling like a more true version of themselves.
In a world that is so easily over run with negativity and stress, I treasure the ability to give my client an experience that is refreshing and leaves them feeling more confident than before.

I've loved playing with makeup for as long as i can remember. When i was in second grade, my mom bought me a tiny tube of barely blue, glitter lipstick from Claire's. I took it to school with me one day and my teacher said, "Lindsay, are you supposed to have that?" I remember thinking, "Well, of course I'm supposed to have it! My mom bought it for me!" Ever since then I've been obsessed with anything in the cosmetic world.
I was born in Hampton, Va but have grown up right t here in Christiansburg. Upon receiving my cosmetology license from Christiansburg High School, I attended New River Community College for two years and then transferred to Redford University. I graduated as a Media Studies major with a focus in journalism. I am now enrolled at QC Makeup Academy and am working to receive my makeup artistry certification. I love to make people look and feel their absolute best and I can't wait to do the same for you!

Hi, my name is Kelsey Hensley and I am so happy to be apart of the CharMarie team! I have always had a passion for making people happy and feel good about themselves, luckily I've been able to translate that into my job as a hairstylist.
Something that is really important to me is that each of my clients feel heard and cared for. I genuinely desire to make each client feel comfortable and confident in their own skin. Color is also my passion; sun-kissed blonde, redheads, brunettes, and lived-in hair are a few areas I specialize in. I will create a look that is completely customized to fit YOU and your lifestyle, because I don’t believe in a “one formula fits all” approach.
I wouldn’t be the stylist I am today without all of the knowledge from the amazing stylists I’ve worked with and learned from, or without continuously educating myself with the most modern styles and techniques! My goal behind the chair is to give you the best service possible and to make you feel like beautiful y o u ! Feel free to check out some of my work on https://m.facebook.com/KelDoesHair/. I would love to work with you!

Bio coming soon!
My name is Allie and I have been a licensed stylist since 2015. When I was younger I would always braid and style my sisters hair and I loved it so much, and ever since then I knew I wanted to do hair as a job.
My passion is definitely formal styling. I really get to be creative and It gives me such joy to know that I have been a part of someone’s special day and that I have made them feel beautiful and feel confident. I am so grateful for this opportunity and I look forward to meeting everyone!
My passion for hair design began as a child, when I would give my sister makeovers and the two of us would act out scenes on our pretend stage. This passion for making individuals into their best selves remained and led me to work with legendary stylists Irving Rusk and Horst Rechelbacher (founder of Aveda). Under their guidance, I fostered a desire to transform clients by specializing in innovative cutting, styling, and color techniques. My priority is to focus on the initial consultation, to ensure that my client leaves the salon feeling confident.
It has been my privilege to work with a diverse group of clients, including the cast of Dirty Dancing, visiting personalities and performers (including a Nobel Prize-Winning Author, Artist, Poet Laureate, civil rights activists, orchestra concert master, a Grammy Award finalist and numerous actors), business owners, professors and hundreds of local clients.
Like the young man who prepared his sister for her acting roles those many years ago, my philosophy has remained the same -- we are all actors on the stage of life and to play our best roles we must look the part and feel confident. Whether in front of thousands of people, in the classroom, in the office, or at home, I always strive to make you look and feel your very best!
